Every time a company hires an African employee through Kernel, it is not only a position filled. It is a family changing direction, a country keeping its talents, a continent transforming itself.

Manifesto 2026
The reality
Africa is not short of talent. It is short of opportunities.
Africa is home to 1.4 billion people (2.5 billion in 20 years), 60% of whom are under 25 years old. Every year, more than 12 million young Africans enter the labour market. They graduate from universities, engineering schools, technical programs and international curricula. They speak French, English, Arabic and Portuguese. They grew up with the internet, they are connected, motivated, ambitious and determined. They are ready.
Yet many of these talents remain without qualified employment. Not because they lack skills. Because they lack employers able to recognise these skills at their fair value, locally, within a stable and lasting framework.
“
The outcome is well known. The best talents end up leaving. They move to Canada, France, the Emirates, Germany. They leave their families, their friends, their landmarks. A brain drain that prevents them from contributing to the economic and intellectual prosperity of their own country. And their home country loses its most precious resources.
This is what we call the brain drain. And this is precisely what Kernel exists to prevent.
Kernel conviction
Talent should be able to stay home, in optimal conditions.
Our convictions
What we deeply believe.
Four convictions shape Kernel’s commitment to African talents and to the companies that hire them.
01
Talent should be able to stay where it lives.
A talented Senegalese developer has no reason to leave Dakar to showcase their skills. Today’s technology lets people work from anywhere. Kernel makes that possible.
02
Precariousness is not a fatality.
The African talents you hire through Kernel work in excellent conditions: a genuine contract, whether they are employees (permanent or fixed-term) or contractors (freelancers, independents), guaranteed rights, monthly compensation and a recognised status in their country.
03
Hiring in Africa is a matter of pride.
Recruiting on the African continent is not a low-cost move. It is a choice of operational excellence, positive social impact and long-term engagement. Companies that do it build outstanding teams and contribute to transforming a continent.
04
Our role is to make that choice simple.
Kernel exists so that hiring in Africa becomes as natural, fast and compliant as hiring in Paris, London or New York. We take on the entire legal, fiscal and operational complexity, so you can focus on what matters: growing your teams.

Impact mechanics
How a Kernel hire becomes a real social impact.
Whether you hire an employee (permanent or fixed-term) or a contractor (freelancer, independent, consultant), Kernel builds the same quality foundation: a compliant contract, secure payroll, working conditions that meet the bar, and a tangible impact for the talent, their family and their country.
Pillar 01
A lasting engagement, employee or contractor
At Kernel, your African team members are engaged within a solid framework, whether as employees (permanent or fixed-term) or as contractors (freelancers, independents, consultants). No informal arrangements, no grey zones, no disguised precariousness. Each colleague signs a contract compliant with the local law of their country, in the status best suited to your need and theirs. A genuine working relationship, structured, transparent and protective. This is the foundation that turns a job into a professional trajectory.
Pillar 02
Regular compensation, in the local currency
Your team member is paid every month, on a fixed date, in their local currency, on their bank account or via mobile money depending on local practices. No delays, no FX issues eating into income, no opaque international payments. Whether salary or contractor fees, payroll is calculated and disbursed by Kernel, with social contributions and tax obligations properly handled. For your colleague, it is the certainty of a stable, predictable, protected income.
Pillar 03
Working conditions that meet the bar
Health coverage, paid leave, training, administrative support, professional equipment: we equip every African colleague as if they were sitting in your headquarters. For employees, the full set of rights set out in local labour law applies in full (Kernel carries the legal responsibility as the official employer). For contractors, a clear contractual framework, the right tools, a dedicated contact and a continuous relationship. In both cases, optimal conditions to succeed.
Pillar 04
Impact that goes beyond the individual
In Africa, a qualified job rarely benefits a single person. According to estimates from the World Bank and several socio-economic studies on the continent, one formal income supports on average 4 to 6 dependants: spouse, children, parents, sometimes nephews or nieces in school. When you hire an African colleague through Kernel, employee or contractor, you stabilise an entire household, sometimes an extended family. Children’s education becomes possible, access to quality care improves, family savings build up. This is not a side effect of your hire, it is its main effect on the continent.
Pillar 05
Shared pride, on both sides
Hiring in Africa with Kernel means giving women and men the opportunity to build an ambitious career from home, in optimal conditions. For your teams and stakeholders, it also means a tangible, assumed pride: that of a company that chooses to invest in the continent, value its talents, and contribute to retaining its best profiles. Every Kernel hire strengthens this movement, on the continent as well as within your organisation.

“I had been accepted into programs in Canada and France. I almost left. Then I found this role in Dakar, for a European scale-up, through Kernel. Today I work on projects as ambitious as in Paris, I am properly paid, I have a real contract, and I come home in the evening to see my daughter. I will never regret that choice.”

“For years, I watched my friends leave one by one. London, Berlin, Dubai. Each time, it was a loss for Ghana. I stayed because I had the chance to be hired by a German company through Kernel. I earn what my expatriate friends earn, I am building something here, and I am starting to train young developers around me. My dream is for others to be able to do the same.”

“When I was offered this role for a company based in Amsterdam, I was sceptical. How would it work? How would I be paid? What about my rights? Kernel explained everything to me, in French, with patience. I signed a real Moroccan employment contract, I am declared with the CNSS, I have health insurance for my family. And I work on a product I love. This is what was missing in Morocco: this kind of opportunity, accessible locally.”

Your pride
Hiring in Africa is also your pride.
Companies that hire in Africa through Kernel do not do it out of charity. They do it because it is economically smart, socially fair and culturally powerful. They build more diverse, more engaged, more inventive teams. They expand their talent pool well beyond European or North American competition, where the same profiles are fought over at premium prices. They join a story bigger than themselves: that of a continent taking its place in the global economy, no longer as a region to be exploited, but as a region to be valued.
It is no longer a question of cost. It is a question of meaning.
Your European or American employees are proud to work with their African colleagues. Your clients see a company that genuinely embraces openness. Your investors recognise an authentic, measurable CSR commitment that does not boil down to a page in an annual report. And you, as a leader, HR professional or manager, you are building something that will still be talked about in ten years: the proof that companies can act as positive players in the transformation of the world, not just as spectators of a change endured.
Our commitment
Kernel’s commitment, in four principles.
Four enforceable promises that do not stop at a slogan.
01
No undeclared work, ever
Every employee you hire through Kernel is declared, contractualised and protected under the local law of their country. No informal arrangements, no hybrid statuses, no grey zones. Legal compliance is not a product we sell, it is our reason for being.
02
Fair pay, aligned with local standards
We help our clients structure compensation aligned with local salary levels, using country-by-country benchmarks. Our employees are not underpaid compared to peers in the same role and country. Hiring in Africa must not be a low-cost arbitrage.
03
Active support for local talent retention
We measure our success by the number of talents who stay in their country thanks to our contracts. The more companies we support in their African hires, the more the continent keeps its best profiles. This is our primary impact indicator.
04
Full transparency on impact
We will publish a measured social impact report every year. Jobs created and supported, countries covered, profiles accompanied, retention rate. No greenwashing. Verifiable figures that show what is actually happening.
What if your next hire had a real impact?
Hiring in Africa with Kernel means finding an outstanding colleague. It also means contributing to the transformation of a continent. The two do not contradict each other. They reinforce each other.
